In July 12, 1562 took place one of the greater harms that Spanish priests made to the Mayan culture, and to Science: the burning of around 27 Maya books, also known as Codices, and destroyed about 5 thousand Maya cult images. Diego de Landa, bishop of the Roman Catholic Archdioceses of Yucatán, Mexico, was the one in charge of destroying these "pagan" books. Most of Maya knowledge, regarding medicine, plants, astronomy, math, architecture, traditions, philosophy, and other areas, vanished forever in this catastrophic event. However, a few of those books did survive, shedding some light on that extraordinary culture.
