Nowadays, the term "Carajo"in Spanish is used as part of a phrase which means "Damn it! Go to Hell! Fuc*&# off! However, literally the real meaning of Carajo refers to the lookout basket on the top mast of the Spanish ships. This was a post in which sailors got very seasick, and it was also used as a place of punishment to those who committed faults aboard the ships during the voyage. This is the Carajo from La Santa Maria, one of the three historic caravels used by Christpher Columbus during his first voyage in 1492. This art is based in the caravels replicas anchored in the Wharf of the Caravels Museum, in Huelva, Spain.
