This work reproduces the second task by Heracles in Greek mythology: kill the Lernaean Hydra, a monstrous serpent with nine heads. The Hydra attacked with poisonous venom. This is a representation of Heracles (Hercules) slaying the Hidra. This Greek passage was found in a vase sheltered on the J. Paul Getty Museum, California, from the C 6th BC.
