Nature was always part of the native cultures in the ancient American societies. Here is a band deployed from a "Copador" style pottery created during the Late Classic period (AD 600-800) in Southeast Mayan. Here is an excerpt from a little bird exposed in the bands of this pottery style, which is also a common draw in these pieces. Archaeologists often record this decorative detail in the bands by naming them as a "bird eating fruit." It may very well represent a very simple way of admiring the medium by the ancient artisans, however this detail is found in many pieces used for ceremonial purposes. The real meaning of this bird is still a mystery within the scientific community.
