Nature was always part of the native cultures in the ancient American societies. Here is a band deployed from a "Copador" style pottery created during the Late Classic period (AD 600-800) in Southeast Mayan. This art shows two stylized parrots, drawn and painted with rustic instruments by the ancient artisans. Much of the local fauna is represented as part of the ceramic decoration, especially in pieces used for ceremonial purposes. For centuries, these beautiful birds have been adorning the mountains and tropical landscape of the region.
