Ceren, or Joya de Cerén, located in El Salvador, is a Maya village buried under 7 metres of ashes thrown by Loma Caldera in 590 AD. Some call it the American Pompeii. Ceren was discovered in 1976, and excavated for the first time in 1978. Its conservation is such that it can be studied as if it were a contemporary site, providing an insight into the daily lives of Mayan farmers.  Today, Ceren is considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This view of Ceren depicts the Communal House (also known as Structure 3), which is one of the most iconic structures of this amazing site.
