We actively work and plan new educational topics requested by any school or educational institution, online or in person. At Blueprinted Education we design materials for any topic that teachers or educational institution may need. Our designs include workshops, scripts and illustrations, all of which are based on original research and art.

Drawing will open a new perspective of how things from the past are seen by little ones. Drawing at an early age is the most tangible way of communication before learning how to write. Thus, we have an opportunity to record something that many of us lost while growing up. This program is about that: a record, a teaching experience, and a lesson. Our methodology has been successfully tested, so we guarantee a remarkable experience. Check out our gallery and demos.
Sketching My First Book of History is a book project and a teaching experience about local history or other topics by adopting a unique, well and carefully designed program that last no more than two hour in classroom.
This activity fits well as part of any school program, aiming to teach values upon their local heritage and history. Combining art and science, it would create a learning and fun environment, engaging children from an early ages to love heritage and history.
This service includes:
1. One educational activity (presentation and workshop), one to two hours.
2. Design of the children's books, including a cover.
The Activity
Sketching My First Book of History is kind of a game designed by Blueprinted Education in which the class and the lecturer will draw illustrations for a children's book that tells local history, history of arts, the Americas or other topics. We will explore and witness the way how children get involved in these amazing topics. And of course, the lecturer will add our special touch of art, so it would be something very special to be a part of.
During the process, one of our team members will lead the class into this project by re-editing the local history or other topic into a child-friendly format. From this children will create a new graphic version of the lecture that was presented. We will use our own art and technique to grab children's attention.

Process
This book project is geared to children between 6 and 10 years old. To complete this book project, we plan to gather a child's perspective of local history by illustrating what they learned. To gather the children's perspective the organizers will need to set up a carefully designed workshop and presentation. The result will be a book of drawings made by the participants with unique and original material that the class will remember. |
Objective
1. Give a history lesson in an enjoyable and engaging way. 2. Provide a historic perspective of the locality in a child friendly format, by using drawings and art. 3. Contribute to the process of acquiring values of local identity, history, heritage and education. 4. Children will be the author of their first edited book, thus this activity would set a remarkable experience about art, literature and science. |
Requirements
1. This activity requires no more than 25 kids, from 6 to 10 years old.
2. A room with a projector or screen and working tables to make the drawings.
3. Drawing paper and coloured pencils.
4. An assistant who is going to help the lecturer organize the room, tables and record the activity by taking pictures and video. Someone from the school would be great.

Presentation
It will consist of a 20-minute presentation using Power Point, from which we will narrate and illustrate the history of BC, starting with the first explorations in the province and ending with the missionaries and city development. In this presentation the lecturer will use pictures combined with graphics that are prepared specially for these uses. The children would be able to learn history through cartoons and animations. Each slite is linked with the topic that each kid is going to draw about during the workshop time. |
Workshop
In this section, children will focus on drawing certain segments of history as presented. The portion of time required for this section is flexible as determined with the school, typically 40 minutes to 1 hour are sufficient. After the presentation, children will draw a certain part of history that they already saw, by using laminates with our drawings on it as reference. Each drawing would represent a canvas. |
Afterwards...
We will organize the drawings according to the scene each child draws, and then file them in folders. Every canvas will include information such as: number of folder, name of child, school or institution, project number and age.
Then, we will keep the drawings and use them to assemble or arrange their history in a book format. In other words, we would use their drawings to show them how history is represented when it's being told by them.
We will aim to provide the school a design of the history we learn in class within a 2 week period. This design will be a mini-graphic book (similar to a children's history book,) in a digital format, so the school may print and hand out to each child involved in the activity. It would contain no more than twenty pages, and would include the credits of each child and the school.
Therefore, from this material children would be able to share their history, which was drawn by them, and then kept as a learning experience.
The original drawing will be given back to the school, so if they wish, an additional exposition can be set up, and then handed back to each child. We would keep a copy of each drawing to use it in other programs and potential publications.

About the mini-book
It will be one book per activity. Each book will contain: a cover design, graphic design, children's drawings, children's credits, teacher and school credits, and a picture of the class in the back (we mean a drawing of the class.) This activity can be flexible to accommodate changes in our methodology, as the school wishes, for example reducing the time of the lecture or increasing the time of the workshop. The design of the book can also be assembled according to the school suggestions, paper, and materials. |
About Publications (let's be part of something big)
The drawings collected from various institutions in the Okanagan will be part of a database. The best drawings will be chosen to be included in a final book.
The final book will expose the full history of the region from the child's perspective, promoting the cultural heritage values of the region, as well as the history and educational projects conducted and organizations' support.
This final book would be published and offered in bookshops and online stores distributed around Canada. The name of every child who participated in the project, schools, institutions and collaborators will be included in the credits. And of course the main authors of the book: the little artists and historians. Blueprinted Education will provide a copy of this book to the school.
